Issue Position: Responsible Tax Cuts

Issue Position

"The time has come for common-sense tax relief for working Iowans."

Congressman Leonard Boswell has a track record of supporting fiscally responsible, common-sense tax relief that puts more money into the hands of Iowa's workers, Iowa's businesses, and Iowa's families, which has resulted in Americans paying the lowest level of taxes in 2009 since 1950.

While serving Iowa's 3rd District, Boswell has voted to end the marriage penalty; increase and expand the child tax credit; eliminate the inheritance tax; and enact the Making Work Pay Tax Credit. Boswell supports providing targeted tax credits that expand our nation's economic power by providing incentives for Americans to further their education and purchase homes. In the 111th Congress, Boswell introduced legislation to further reduce the tax burden on students, families, and homeowners with the introduction of the Universal College Credit Act and the Homeowner Tax Assistance Act.

Boswell continues to advocate for tax credits to invest in America's homegrown, renewable energy industry, including incentives for the production of biodiesel, wind, solar, and geothermal power. Boswell is a longtime supporter of the R&D tax credit that provides Iowa businesses with the tools to invest and create innovative technologies and products that creates and maintains jobs in Iowa.
