Issue Position: Homeland Security

Issue Position

As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I work each day to ensure the safety and security of the American people both at home and abroad. During my first term in Congress, I voted for legislation to bolster our national security and security for our communities in central Ohio.

I voted for the Recovery and Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Acts which made sound investments in border, aviation, and port security and supported the 2010 Defense Authorization to strengthen our military readiness and to responsibly redeploy American troops out of Iraq and focus our strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I also voted to enhance transportation security for the over 10 billion American mass transit trips each year, and to increase the security and safety of America's chemical plants and water facilities which are vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

We also need to make sure that our local neighborhoods are kept safe. That is why I voted to put 50,000 cops on our streets over the next five years, and voted to give law enforcement the recourses to prevent and prosecute hate crimes that occur in our communities.

The most important responsibility of America's elected leaders is to protect Americans from harm. I am proud to be on the House Homeland Security Committee so that I can make sure that we are doing everything we can in Congress to make sure that our Nation is secure and our troops remain safe.
