Pompeo Responds to President Obama's Speech on Iraq

Location: Wichita, KS

Kansas 4thDistrict Congressional candidate and military veteran Mike Pompeo responded tonight to President Obama's speech declaring the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the U.S. combat operations in Iraq.

"With the President's speech last night on Iraq, we have an even bigger opportunity to recognize the sacrifices of our military heroes," Pompeo said. "Here in Kansas, we understand the stress of war on our military families. In the 4th District, we have thousands of soldiers who have endured long deployments more than once. We must recognize the sacrifices of our military and their families and know we cannot go back because the job wasn't done right the first time"

"The progress we've made in Iraq is not permanent," continued Pompeo. "If we're not vigilant and continue to be on guard against terrorists and those seeking to harm our nation both at home and abroad, then we could be forced to return to Iraq for a third time. I urge President Obama to listen to his military advisors on the battlefield and weigh their input highly when making any future decisions."

"We face an even more difficult situation in Afghanistan. It's my hope that as the next Congressman from the 4th District of Kansas, I'll be able to help make sure our soldiers have the resources they need to complete the mission there -- and help take care of our heroes when they come home."
