The Brady Brief - Creating Jobs

Statement

Dear Friend,

Our country is currently facing its worst economic crisis in recent history. Since the recession started over a year ago, rising unemployment rates and job losses have been major concerns for all Americans. In response to this crisis, Congress has passed several pieces of legislation to create and save good jobs, and I have proudly supported each one.

The following pieces of legislation highlight some of the steps Congress has taken in addressing unemployment in America. A more extensive list, with detailed explanations of these bills and others, can be found on my website.

Jobs for Main Street Act (Passed by House on December 16, 2009)
- Provides $154 billion in spending in three categories: infrastructure, public service, and emergency funding.
- These investments are fully paid for by redirecting TARP funds from Wall Street to Main Street.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Signed into law on February 17, 2009)
- Has strengthened a broad range of industries, such as renewable energy, construction and manufacturing, and information technology, which are all critical to creating jobs now, as well as transforming our economy for the 21st Century.
- The Congressional Budget Office estimates that up to 1.6 million jobs were created or saved by this legislation.

In addition to these bills, which create jobs on a national level, I have also proudly supported various measures to stimulate job growth and improve the economy in the Philadelphia region, including:

Securing millions of dollars of federal funding for job creation projects throughout Philadelphia.

Committing to bring more green jobs to the city to improve the city's economy and environment.

Introducing H.Res 986, which would make the Philadelphia region the host for celebrations honoring the 250th Anniversary of America's birth in 2026. These celebrations would bring an unprecedented amount of tourism, revenue, and attention to the city of Philadelphia.

I will continue to represent the interests of the people of the 1st District, and look forward to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to create more jobs in this country. If you have any questions or comments regarding this, or any other issue, do not hesitate to contact any of my offices.

Sincerely,

Robert Brady
Member of Congress
