A New Press Release

Statement

Date: Aug. 25, 2010

At the end of my last news post I mentioned something about the Santa Ana Sucker. No this is not the 100 to 1 long shot at the local race track! This is a very small fish which lives in the Santa Ana river. Recently government bureaucrats have decided that maybe we need a Southern California version of the Delta Smelt which last year cost California billions of dollars and thousands of jobs. It appears that some who are in power believe that this little fish needs more water and the residents of So. Cal need to give up some of their water for the little guy! I've read that some even believe we need to destroy the Seven Oaks Dam because of the Sucker.

I have been told by an official with a local water agency that Congressman Baca is on the side of the residents and not the fish. (The person handling that issue in his office was out, so the front desk couldn't verify this.) Finally we have an issue on which we both agree --- so mark this day down in history!! Rep. Lewis and even Senator Feinstein are on the right side of this one. Interestingly enough, Senator Boxer has not come to the defense of the people (at last check).

But what good is a press release during campaign season if there isn't a challenge? According to the non-partisan Tax Foundation (established in 1937), if Congress doesn't act soon, the average middle-income family's tax burden in the 43rd District will go from $936 to $2,581 -- an increase of over $1600!! So much for the President's campaign promise not to raise taxes on the middle class!

Congressman Baca, I challenge youto do something positive for all of the taxpayers in our district -- When you return to Washington after your "Townhall-less" August recess, I urge you to join those who are calling for an extention of the Bush tax cuts. You call yourself "Working Joe", so why don't you do some work for the "Average Joe" and make sure his federal taxes don't double next year!!
