U.S. Senator Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today applauded a 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals decision that essentially overturned a lower court ruling related to federal funding of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). The lower court incorrectly ruled that Congress could not block funds from ACORN.
"I am pleased that the appeals court correctly interpreted the intent of Congress," said Johanns. "As I've said before, access to federal funding is a privilege - not a right - and Congress has a responsibility to ensure taxpayer money is not being wasted by organizations like ACORN. Those who use tax dollars must do so honorably, and today's ruling confirms this."
