First, we must rein in spending, reduce our debt and cut the waste out of government. Our national debt currently stands at $12.4 trillion -- that adds up to yearly interest payments of over $500 billion. The path we are on is unsustainable and as a matter of both economic and national security, we must take back control..

In Congress, I will be a vocal opponent to wasteful, deficit spending. If we don't turn the spending spree around in Washington, our children's grandchildren will drown in the red ink of today's reckless spending. I have cut more spending than any other Appropriations Chair in Kansas history and was the lead sponsor of a bill to place a debt ceiling on Kansas borrowing -- I have led on reducing government debt in Kansas and will do the same in Washington.
