Location: Belleville, IL

On Thursday, August 12, 2010, U.S. Congressman Jerry F. Costello (D-IL) participated in ceremonies marking the 75th Anniversary of Social Security at the Programs and Services for Older Persons (PSOP) Center in Belleville. One of the seniors at PSOP was selected to cut the cake with Congressman Costello who spent some time meeting with others in attendance.

Costello has voted against previous legislation that would privatize Social Security and continues to resist any efforts that would weaken this program or put recipients' benefits at risk.

"Social Security has been a vital program that, throughout its 75 year existence, has helped ensure that millions of Americans are able to spend their retirement years with a level of dignity and security," said Costello. "I have fought to protect and strengthen Social Security and I will continue to work hard to make sure we keep our promise to current and future generations."
