Burton Joins Congressional Tea Party Caucus Caucus To Champion Constitutional Government, Founders' Principles

Statement

Date: July 20, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) issued the following statement after becoming a charter member of the Congressional Tea Party Caucus, a group open to all member of Congress and devoted to bringing the principles of the Founding Fathers and the Constitution to the forefront of government:

"Over the last year, I have met with various tea party leaders across central Indiana and joined their rallies in Washington. Throughout our spirited interactions it has always been clear that we share the same core principles, as well as the same outrage over the direction America is heading. We cherish our liberty and abhor big government. We have seen our Constitution trampled by Obamacare, and our Founding Fathers' principles forgotten with each government takeover. We have had enough.

"The establishment of the Tea Party Caucus gives the millions of frustrated Hoosiers and Americans a concerted voice in Congress. As one avenue of constituent outreach among many, we will turn grassroots ideas into Congressional actions, and work together to forge a path back to Constitutional government.
