Cantwell Statement on Coast Guard Helicopter Crash

Statement

Date: July 8, 2010
Location: Chelan, WA

Today, U.S Senator Maria Cantwell, (D-WA), who chairs the Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard, released the following statement on yesterday's Coast Guard helicopter crash off the coast of La Push, WA.

"Yesterday, the U.S. Coast Guard lost three of its own when one of its MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters crashed just off the coast of La Push. The fourth crewmember was rescued and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The brave men and women of the Coast Guard risk their lives day in and day out for our safety. Through their courage and service, they provide security and safety for our coastal communities, fisheries, and waterways. I want to commend the Coast Guard, the Quileute Nation, the Canadian Air Force, the U.S. Navy and the National Park Service for their rapid response during the search and rescue mission. And my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the Coast Guard crewmembers who were lost and injured."
