U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., R-Southwest Louisiana, today applauded passage of an extension for the National Flood Insurance Program in the House.

"As we enter hurricane season, we continue to be reminded of the potential for devastating storms," Boustany said. "The National Flood Insurance Program provides a critical safeguard for homeowners around the country, especially those in Acadiana and Southwest Louisiana. It's a commonsense program, and I urge the Senate to pass the extension quickly."

According to the National Association of Realtors, five and a half million people depend on the National Flood Insurance Program. The House unanimously passed an extension through September 30, 2010.
