Dodd Statement on UConn Health Center Bill

Statement

Date: June 4, 2010

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement today after Governor M. Jodi Rell signed into law legislation to provide funding for a new UConn health center.

"Ensuring that Connecticut residents have access to optimal patient care has long been one of my priorities, and I'm glad that Governor Rell and the state legislature have joined me in this mission to create a new health care center of excellence," said Dodd. "I look forward to working closely with my partners at the state level and at UConn to compete for and secure the $100 million in funding for this vital project."

Dodd included a provision in the health care reform legislation that was recently signed into law by President Obama that allocates $100 million for the construction of a university hospital that provides research, inpatient and outpatient services. UConn is one of several hospitals in the country that qualify for the grant. Under the law, the hospital must be affiliated with an academic health center at a public university. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will decide which institution receives funding under this program.
