Date: May 6, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Adler today voted to create domestic jobs and to send less money overseas for foreign oil. With the Congressman's support, the House passed the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act, a bipartisan bill to provide incentives for consumers to renovate their homes and make them more energy efficient. The legislation incentivizes homeowners to invest in a wide-array of energy saving materials and actions.

"This commonsense legislation will create jobs, reduce our energy use and cut costs for middle class families, seniors and small businesses," Congressman John Adler said. "Congress must continue to focus on job creation and efforts to reduce our dependence on foreign oil."

The bipartisan legislation is supported by manufacturing, business and environmental organizations. The bill offers up-front rebates of up to $3,000 for energy saving measures. Eligible activities include insulation, duct sealing, windows and doors, air sealing and water heaters and incentives for complete home-energy renovations. The estimated benefits of the bill are:

* The creation of an estimated 168,000 American jobs in the construction, manufacturing and retail industries.
* An estimated $200-500 per year for 3 million American families on their energy bill.
* A reduction of natural gas and home heating oil use equivalent to nearly 7 million barrels of heating oil in 2011
