Governor Riley Comments on Gambling Bill's Lack of Support in the House

Statement

Date: April 21, 2010
Location: Montgomery, AL

Governor Bob Riley issued the following statement on Wednesday:

"There's still one day left so they could bring it up tomorrow, but right now it looks like there are more votes against this gambling bill than there are for it. The opposition is bipartisan. I believe enough Democrats and Republicans in the House became truly offended by the deceptive tactics of some on the pro-gambling side. This bill doesn't call for an "up' or "down' vote. Even if the people overwhelmingly voted no, nothing happens. It's rigged so the casinos win no matter what the people say. The gambling lobby tried to deceive lawmakers and that eventually caught up with them. But it's too early to say the bill is dead," said Governor Riley.
