Barrett: More Taxing And More Spending Will Not Put Americans Back To Work

Press Release

Date: March 4, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC-03) made the following remarks after voting against H.R. 2847 Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act:

"Unfortunately, the HIRE Act simply does not live up to its own name; instead of encouraging real job growth, it will increase taxes and increase spending. As our national unemployment level shows, Washington's spending streak has not resulted in more jobs for the American people.

Our economy is still struggling and creating more unnecessary financial burdens will only hinder our nation's recovery. In order to steer America back to economic prosperity, we must show fiscal restraint and focus on broad tax cuts, which will ultimately help get more Americans back to work."
