Issue Position

The Bush Administration doctrine of "preventive war/pre-emptive strike", supported by Tim Johnson, violated international law, shredded our international relationships, and turned a large majority of the world's people against us.

The idea of pre-emptive strikes is largely un-American and offensive in nature. Our military should be used to defend our homeland and not to play international policeman against a self-declared "Axis of Evil."

We need a Congress that won't sit back and vote to give any president a blank check to conduct a war whenever, wherever, and however he or she wants.

As your next Congressman, I will use my vote to make sure that we never again embark on a "go it alone" effort of imperialism. I will make sure that we work within the structure of the United Nations and the international community on all foreign policy issues.
