Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) announced today that he will cosponsor bipartisan legislation cutting off funding for the trials of the 9/11 conspirators in civilian court. The bill, S. 2977, has 22 Senate cosponsors.

"We have to make a distinction between an American kid who breaks into a sandwich shop and a foreign terrorist who wants to blow up an airplane," Alexander said. "These foreign terrorists should be tried by military commissions, which Congress this past year carefully amended to increase their protections and make sure they were fair."
