A Christmas Message from Governor Mark Sanford

Statement

Date: Dec. 23, 2009
Location: Columbia, SC

Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following Christmas message:

"As we near Christmas Day, I'd offer both cheerful Season's Greetings and encouragement on three fronts to each one of us that calls South Carolina home.

"I'd first encourage in this Christmas season that all of us focus on what this season is all about -- things that last. So as exciting as things under the tree might be, real meaning and far greater joy are found in the things we can't see or touch -- things like the love that brings friends and family together this holiday season.

"Second, I'd encourage everyone to recognize the very real needs that exist in our communities and look for opportunities to serve those around us. This good will toward our fellow man can go a long way toward making our state a better place to live, and this gift to another pays dividends in our own lives.

"Finally, I'd encourage everyone to take this Christmas spirit and carry it into the New Year. Giving to others, showing the love that marks this season, and reordering one's focus to the things that really matter aren't things best bottled up between Christmas seasons. With all that in mind, Jenny and the boys join me in wishing you and yours a joyous Christmas season, and blessings in the year to come."
