Schock Spearheads Letter To EPA Expressing Concern With Delay In Increasing The Ethanol Blend Wall

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) spearheaded a letter yesterday to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson. The letter, signed by six of his colleagues, expresses concern with the EPA's recent decision to delay increasing the ethanol blend wall from 10 percent to 15 percent, which will inhibit their ability to improve the quality of fuels and help realize our nation's goal of energy independence.

"Increasing the ethanol blend to 15 percent would be a giant step forward. Ultimately, our goal needs to be 20 percent, as I have stated for years," said Schock.

"By increasing the ethanol blends in gas, we will simultaneously address climate change, benefit American agriculture, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and increase green economic opportunities, all of which compliment President Obama's stated goals," continued Schock. "Furthermore, changing to a higher-level ethanol blend has the potential to create an additional 136,000 US jobs. Given the current economic situation, the movement towards E15 would create much-needed American jobs, while paving the way for a cleaner environment."
