U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) today issued the following statement after Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports secured the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

"I want to congratulate Jimmie Johnson and Concord-based Hendrick Motorsports for winning the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. Jimmie and the Hendrick team have made NASCAR history by winning a fourth straight Sprint Cup Championship. This year Jimmie topped himself, winning seven races and securing his latest championship by the widest margin in Chase history. All North Carolinians are looking forward to seeing him race in Concord again at the Coca-Cola 600 next May. I am proud of the NASCAR tradition in our state and as a North Carolina Senator and NASCAR fan, I will continue working to support the motorsports industry in the U.S. Senate."
