Congressman Jackson To Address Health Care Sabbath

Press Release

Date: Oct. 17, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jesse L. Jackson Jr. will join hundreds of health care professionals and faith-based organizations this weekend to promote a national health care reform policy that would provide high-quality affordable health insurance coverage for all Americans.

Jackson will address the three-day "Health Care Sabbath" when he speaks at 11:00 A.M. Sunday at the Upper Room, 2261 Indiana Avenue, in Lansing, Illinois.

A strong advocate of the so-called "public option" contained in House Resolution 3200, Congressman Jackson believes that every American has a right to accessible, affordable and high-quality health care.

The Health Care Sabbath is sponsored by the Healthcare Consortium of Illinois (a group of medical professionals) and the Health Care Justice Campaign's Faith Caucus, which includes 150 congregations of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other traditions, according to Rev. David Bigsby, the event spokesman.

The Healthcare Consortium and Faith Caucus have both endorsed a robust "public option" plan that would establish an affordable health insurance program for those who are uninsured.

"Delaying health insurance reform means higher costs and less coverage for American families," Bigsby said. "A robust public option is crucial to real health reform and a moral imperative."
