Terry Calls For More Troops To Afghanistan

Statement

Date: Oct. 7, 2009
Location: Washington, D.C.

Eight years ago today the United States mission in Afghanistan began. Congressman Lee Terry issued the following statement about the continued involvement of the United States in Afghanistan:

"Today our troops continue the battle of defeating the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan and denying Al Qaeda a safe haven to carry out their terrorist activities", said Congressman Terry. "I appreciate President Obama's willingness to talk with Congressional leaders on a bipartisan basis about the situation in Afghanistan. This is a challenging mission and one the United States must continue to pursue in order to keep our Nation safe."

In February President Obama announced more troops would be sent to Afghanistan and Congressman Terry supported his decision.
