September 11th Commemoration Day

WHEREAS, we will never forget the horrific terrorist attacks against our nation on September 11, 2001; and

WHEREAS, we will always remember and honor the nearly 3000 Americans who lost their lives in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania on that tragic day; and

WHEREAS, we remember and thank the first responders -- the firefighters, police, and emergency personnel who came to the aid of others immediately following the attacks. We mourn the loss of many who died trying to save the lives of others, but are forever grateful for their heroic actions; and

WHEREAS, we honor the many volunteers from all walks of life, with many talents, who gave their time to the recovery effort, as we also recognize the spirit of unity, determination, and community that prevailed at a time of great adversity; and

WHEREAS, on this day and every day, we as Americans reflect on the importance of freedom, tolerance, patriotism, diversity, and respect -- all attributes of American society; and

WHEREAS, we thank our United States servicemen and women who selflessly defend our nation each day with dignity, courage, and strength; and

WHEREAS, we will never forget; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2009 as:

September 11th Commemoration Day

in Alaska, and urge all citizens to turn the anniversary of this day into a day of service, charity, and good deeds to remember those who were lost, honor those who risk their lives to protect us today, and reflect on the strength and resilience of our nation.
