Statement From Creigh Deeds On Drop In Unemployment Rate

Statement

Date: Aug. 21, 2009
Location: Alexandria, VA

"I am glad to see today's reports that Virginia's unemployment rate in Virginia dropped from 7.1 percent to 6.9 percent in July. I hope that this is the beginning of a long-term recovery, but with nearly 286,000 unemployed in the Commonwealth, we clearly still have a lot of work to do. Virginia is one of the states where unemployment looks to be on the way down, and we need to keep moving forward with the common sense, bipartisan formula that made Virginia the best managed state and the best state to do business. As we work to emerge from this crisis, one thing is clear: We can't afford to elect a Governor who would adopt the failed economic policies of George W. Bush that put our country in this position in the first place."
