Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Endorses Sen. Deeds

Sen. Creigh Deeds, the Democratic nominee for governor, today received the endorsement of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus. Sen. Deeds stood with Sen. Yvonne Miller (D-Norfolk), Sen. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth), Sen. Henry Marsh (D-Richmond), Del. Kenneth Cooper Alexander (D-Norfolk) and other elected officials at a press conference in the General Assembly Building.
"The endorsement of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus is a true honor," said Sen. Deeds. "I know firsthand that letting some Virginians fall through our system's cracks weakens all of us, and that we only grow stronger as a Commonwealth by bringing people together, by treating all of our people equally and fairly, and by giving every child the opportunity to succeed.
"As Governor, that will be one of the most important parts of my job," continued Sen. Deeds. "That's why I have a plan to invest in public educationespecially in failing and at-risk schools, commit to hiring more women- and minority-owned businesses at the state level, and strengthening our communities in a number of ways, including better pre-natal care, prison reform, and loan consumer protections."
The VLBC is a bi-partisan organization committed to voicing the legislative concerns of people of color and other historically underrepresented groups throughout the Commonwealth. It was established to educate African American and other minority groups on significant issues such as housing, health care, education/scholarship, economic development, public health and research.
"Today, we want to make clear the importance of this election," said Del. Kenneth Cooper Alexander (D-Norfolk). "It should be understood by everyone that the struggles we face will only continue to get worse if we decide now to disengage. I strongly encourage everyone to begin to take a critical look at this election, its issues, and the choices we face in November."
"Bob McDonnell may be trying to paint himself as a moderate now - but his voting record reveals a right wing agenda that will hurt Virginia families," said Sen. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth). "His social and economic policies will set us back decades and that's not the direction Virginians want to head in."
