Mack: Cuba Proves That Communism is a Failure

Congressman Connie Mack, the Ranking Republican of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, said today that the dire economic situation in Cuba proves that communism is an abject failure. The news comes after President Raul Castro announced that a key Communist Party conference was postponed due to grim economic circumstances.

Mack said:

"For those who claim that the Cuba embargo is a failure, recent news from Havana proves them wrong. Make no mistake: the embargo is working and it is forcing the Castro Brothers to become more desperate.

"Cuba's Dictator, Raul Castro, facing Cuba's worst economic crisis in decades, has indicated that he is willing to talk to the United States. This is no surprise, as Raul and his thugocrat brother, Fidel, are washed up and out of money. Some in this country want to bail out the dictatorship by ending the embargo. But rather than giving a helping hand to the Cuban regime, we should recommit ourselves to defeating communism throughout the Western Hemisphere and freeing the Cuban people from the chains of tyranny imposed by the Castro Brothers.

"Cuba's economic crisis is the result of the abysmal failure of communism. The Cuban people deserve to live in freedom, with the benefit of free markets and capitalism. Instead of helping the Castros stay in power through a bailout, the United States must remain steadfast as a beacon of freedom as we work to free the Cuban people from the clutches of the Castros' dictatorship."
