Bono Mack: CBO Report Reveals America Can't Afford Majority's Health Care Plan

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack today issued the following statement on the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director's report that the House Majority's government takeover of health care will increase already rising health care costs for American families:

"Today's report confirmed that a government takeover of our health care industry will make health care more expensive for American families, strain our economy even more, and drive our nation deeper into debt," said Bono Mack. "In these tough economic times, hardworking Americans deserve better - we need bipartisan solutions that will result in making health care more affordable and more accessible for families across the country.

"Health care reform is essential, but we must move forward intelligently and carefully - the stakes are too high, and family budgets already too strained to get this wrong. Important reforms that will help build a healthier America include improving access and affordability of health care, getting rid of waste, fraud and abuse in programs like Medicare and Medicaid, protecting the doctor-patient relationship, and investing more in prevention and wellness.

"I will continue to work with my colleagues on this critical issue, as it is my hope we can enact solutions that will help more families get the medical care they need, without burdening families by this misguided government takeover of health care."
