Press Release

Date: July 15, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, met with President Obama at the White House today to discuss health care reform legislation moving through the Senate.

Obama asked Sen. Murkowski to come to the White House for an afternoon meeting that also included Republican Sens. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, Bob Corker of Tennessee and Susan Collins of Maine.

"It was a good opportunity for the four of us to express our concerns with the direction that health care reform has taken in the Senate, and the President listened," Murkowski said afterwards. "We raised a number of issues, including how quickly the Senate is moving on a health bill that would raise taxes on small businesses, and modeling a new federal health plan on our broken Medicare system."
