Rules Approves Guidelines for Small Business & Agriculture Bills

Press Release

Date: June 7, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

The House Rules Committee met this afternoon and approved a Rule for consideration of H.R. 2997, Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010 and H.R. 2965, the Enhancing Small Business Research and Innovation Act of 2009.

"The agriculture appropriation bill takes an important step forward by investing in rural America, providing money to revitalize rural housing, water projects, community facilities and economic development efforts," said Rep. Louise Slaughter, Chair of the Rules Committee. "In addition, the small business legislation is bi-partisan legislation that will insure that small and disadvantaged businesses have an opportunity to participate in federal spending and investment. Small firms form the backbone of our economy and hire 40 percent of high tech workers while producing 13 times more patents per employee than large patenting firms produce. This bill encourages more growth and will spark investments. I look forward to debating these bills on the House floor tomorrow and encourage my colleagues to support me in voting for them."
