Dear Neighbors,

With the philosophy, "they never saw a tax they wouldn't support," once again the federal "taxacrats" want to raise your taxes. This week in Washington, D.C., government bureaucrats began crafting new energy tax legislation.

Some have proposed a $646 billion "energy punishment" tax aimed at the pocketbooks of Americans and businesses for using all types of energy. The idea is that we should all feel guilty for using energy and we should pay for our energy sins through a tax on consumption.

The proposed "energy punishment" tax targets three areas that will affect you.

Electricity costs are projected to increase 73% by taxing your use of it. Be careful about using your air conditioning to keep cool during the summer, it will cost you a lot more with the "keeping cool" tax.

Natural gas costs will double by taxing the use of it. When you use natural gas to keep warm in the winter, you're going to be hit with the "keeping warm" tax.

Gasoline taxes will rise 50% by taxing its use. When you drive your vehicle you will pay the new "driving" tax.

As people in District 02 struggle through this economic time, we should be reducing the tax burden on citizens in order to invigorate the economy. I will only support practical legislation that takes advantage of our domestic energy resources without tax increases for the American consumer.

Simply put, Americans are taxed enough already. The government should not tax us back to a Stone Age existence with the new absurd "energy punishment" tax.

Instead, we must create new ways to find energy - not tax energy. I support developing wind, solar, nuclear, and other practical energy alternatives.

We must also take advantage of our own resources here at home.

I have introduced H.R. 1143, the DRILL NOW Act, a bill that allows for further exploration of natural resources while rewarding states that want to control their own energy supply and continue respecting the environment. The bill will allow states to decide on when, where and how to drill off of their own shores and to share in proceeds of the millions of dollars that are generated from these leases that energy companies pay. Currently, the federal government receives all the money from lease revenue and this bill creates lease revenue share between the federal government and the states. This will lessen the tax burden, create jobs and keep money in the USA. We don't need more taxes - but less spending, less borrowing, and less taxes.

God and Texas,
