Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) praised action by President Obama today to establish by Executive Order a coordinated interagency strategy on the restoration and protection of the Chesapeake Bay. The order mandates federal agencies to work together to develop a coordinated strategy for the Bay by the end of next year and directs individual agencies to take leadership roles on various aspects of the restoration effort.

"I commend President Obama for taking seriously the problems of the Chesapeake Bay and directing relevant agencies to work together to restore our nation's largest estuary. The President's Executive Order demonstrates a clear recognition that the incredible resources and wide-ranging expertise of the federal government are critical to the success of our efforts to protect and restore this vital natural resource. I look forward to working with the Administration to turn the tide and preserve our Chesapeake Bay."
