Senator Begich Statement on Appointment of Pat Pourchot to Interior

U.S. Senator Mark Begich today released the following statement after Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced the appointment of Pat Pourchot to be his Special Assistant for Alaska Affairs:

"Secretary Salazar has made a great choice in selecting Pat Pourchot as his eyes and ears in Alaska. Pat has decades of experience as a Senate aide in Washington, legislator in Juneau, Natural Resources commissioner for Alaska and advocate for responsible development with conservation groups in Anchorage. I'm confident Pat has the diplomatic skills to balance competing interests facing Interior issues in Alaska and won't be bashful about telling the Obama administration the blunt truth about Alaska issues. I look forward to working with Pat and his team at Interior to advance their understanding of Alaska at the highest levels in Washington, D.C."

Pourchot will be based in Anchorage.
