ARCURI STATEMENT ON POWER LINE VICTORY

U.S. Rep. Michael A. Arcuri (NY-24) released the following statement today following reports that New York Regional Interconnection (NYRI) has withdrawn its application with the New York State Public Service Commission to build a power line from Marcy, NY to Orange County:

"I have never been so proud to be part of a fight as I have in my opposition to NYRI. Today's announcement is a major victory for all of us who have opposed NYRI from the beginning. Our concerted method of attack - community forums, state and federal legislative hurdles at every turn, and consistent, unified opposition - has proven to work.

"I only hope that this is not merely another attempt by NYRI to skirt New York State's authority to deny the project. NYRI must know we will not let our guard down. Our opposition remains steadfast and unified."

"I would like to congratulate STOP NYRI, CARI, and all of the citizens groups for their hard work and dedication. It has been a pleasure and honor to work with them on this fight."
