Murphy Strongly Opposes State Layoff Proposal

Congressional candidate and local businessman Scott Murphy strongly opposes the layoffs proposed by the Governor. Murphy also stressed how he will partner with President Obama and Senator Gillibrand in Washington on behalf of state employees, especially during this economic crisis.

"I oppose the layoffs being proposed. Now more than ever, we must make sure that our state agencies have adequate staff as we attempt to recover from this economic crisis.

"One of the reasons I came out in support of the stimulus is because it provides $16.6 billion in budget relief to New York to help guarantee services and hold the line on property taxes. My opponent said ‘No' to this assistance as well as the 76,000 jobs that the stimulus means for Upstate New York.

"I look forward to partnering with Senator Gillibrand and President Obama in Washington on behalf of state employees all across the 20th District, where I will fight to create jobs, provide middle class tax relief, and offer new ways to meet our most pressing challenges, so we can turn our economy around."
