Velázquez Statement on Death of Salvador Acevedo Colón

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-N.Y.) today issued the following statement on the passing of Salvador Acevedo Colón, father of Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, Resident Commissioner and Member of Congress from Puerto Rico:

"I was deeply saddened when I heard the news about the death of Salvador Acevedo Colón this past weekend. He was a great man, a great judge, and a great public servant. He will be sorely missed.

"His life of public service was marked by stints as a senator of Bayamón, and as a Superior Court Judge for almost a decade. Through his work, he was able to make significant change in our communities, and affect people's lives for the better.

"This is a certainly a great loss for his family - but also for the island of Puerto Rico. I offer my deepest condolences and prayers to all his loved ones in such a difficult time."
