Bunning Statement On President Obama's Executive Order Lifting Restrictions On Embryonic Stem Cell Research

U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today issued the following statement opposing President Barack Obama's Executive Order lifting restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

"I have serious moral and ethical concerns with President Obama's decision to allow federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. While I have tremendous sympathy for those individuals suffering from various diseases and I support other types of stem cell research, I do not believe we should be creating life to destroy it in the name of medical research. I believe life begins at conception and have always supported legislation and policies that protect human life. I am strongly opposed to embryonic stem cell research being funded by the federal government."
