Barrett Statement on Today's Signing of the Democrat Spending Bill

Statement

Date: Feb. 17, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman J. Gresham Barrett released the following statement in response to President Obama's signing of the Democrat Spending Bill earlier today:

"Before signing the Democrat Spending Bill into law earlier this afternoon, President Obama said this legislation would bring ‘real and lasting change for generations to come.' But, $100,000 in debt for every household to fund an expansion of government programs is not the kind of change American families were counting on. The fact is this $1 trillion spending spree costs too much money, takes too long to make a difference, and fails to create enough good jobs.

"This legislation ignores the fact that small business are the engine of our economy. Democrats in Congress could not find any room for tax relief for small businesses, but they managed to increase spending on pork projects like $50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts and $30 million for a San Francisco mouse. The hardworking people of South Carolina deserve better than what they got today."
