Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today announced her appointment as Chair of the Energy Subcommittee on Water and Power under the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. This subcommittee will oversee important irrigation, land reclamation, and flood control issues along with energy development and its impact on our water resources. As chair, Stabenow will play a leading role in shaping national energy policy in the 111th Congress.

"My new responsibilities as Chair of the Energy Subcommittee on Water and Power will allow me to strengthen the role our state has in crafting national energy policy and its effects on our rivers and waterways," Stabenow said. "As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I'm also very pleased to serve on the Subcommittees on Energy and National Parks. We have important work ahead of us, and I will continue to fight every day for the policies that reduce our dependence on foreign oil, combat global warming, and create good-paying jobs at home."

She will continue to serve on the influential Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Agriculture Committee, and the Senate Budget Committee, all of which have jurisdiction over a wide range of issues important to Michigan. She will also once again serve in her leadership position as the Chair of the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee.
