Lincoln Statement on Mumbai Terror Attacks, President-elect Obama's Selection of Senator Clinton as Secretary of State

U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) today released the following statement regarding the Mumbai terror attacks and President-elect Barack Obama's selection of Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State:

"I send my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the Mumbai attacks. As fellow human beings, our hearts break for the atrocities these families have experienced. Their grief is no different from what all families feel at the loss of a mother, father, sibling, child or spouse. The coordinated killings are an outrage to the sanctity of human life. They are a tragic reminder that terrorism remains a global problem and that we must work with our partners around the world to combat it.

"Today, President-elect Obama named members of his national security team. I commend President-elect Obama for selecting Senator Clinton to serve as our nation's next Secretary of State. Senator Clinton is well-respected in the global community and will be an effective envoy as the next Administration and Congress work together to combat terrorism, more effectively address our growing national security priorities, and rebuild our friendships and standing in the world. As a friend, I have enjoyed working with Hillary in the United States Senate, and she will be greatly missed. I know all Arkansans are proud of her commitment to our country and her outstanding record of public service.

"I look forward to working with Senator Clinton in her new role, as well as with President-elect Obama's team of national security advisors. I am confident that our next Administration will work to strengthen our global alliances and sharpen our focus on the security threats of the 21st century."
