Issue Position: Education

As a mother, as all parents, I want my daughter to have the best education possible so she can fulfill all her hopes and dreams. Our young people are the future leaders of our country, and it is essential that we have the best education system in the world. It must start by attracting the best and brightest to become teachers, pay them well, and providing those teachers the tools needed to educate our children and fully fund the programs we have put in place. In order for Americans to compete in the 21st Century, we must place a renewed focus on our schools, especially math and science education.

That is why I have supported funding to build better schools. Children can't focus on learning when the walls around them are literally crumbling. Yet, that is the situation in many California schools. According to the National Center of Educational Statistics, schools in California are in need of $19 billion in repairs.

That's why I've sponsored a bill called the State Infrastructure Banks for Schools Act to help fund needed repairs for our schools. This innovative bill would offer financing through state revolving loan funds and would provide more than $2.5 billion over five years to help build and repair public schools and libraries.
