Issue Position

Congressman Loebsack is dedicated to finding long term solutions that make critical investments in economic development, renewable energy, and education so we can create new jobs and once again establish an economy that works for all Iowans. To begin this effort, Congressman Loebsack has supported:

* The Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act, H.R. 5140, provides 117 million working families, 20 million seniors, and 250,000 disabled veterans cash up-front to help with everyday expenses. In Iowa, the average family received $917.00 and help build confidence in our state's economy.

* The Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2007, H.R. 2642, extends Unemployment Benefits for up to 13 weeks in every state where workers have exhausted the 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits.

* The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, H.R. 2, raises the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour over the next two years to better ensure people receive a fair pay for a hard day's work.

* The Energy Independence and Security Act, H.R. 6, expands Iowa's local economies, creates new jobs, strengthens our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and lowers energy costs for families and businesses.

* The Small Business Investment Expansion, H.R. 3567, allows the Small Business Administration to assist small business owners with obtaining the investment capital necessary to start or expand their operations and help create new jobs.

* The College Cost Reduction and Access Act, H.R. 2669, gives more students greater access to financial aid assistance by making the single largest investment in college financial aid since the original GI bill at no new cost to taxpayers.

* Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act, H.R. 5715, provides students with continued, uninterrupted access to federally guaranteed student loans, despite the current credit crisis.

* Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008, H.R. 6124, this newly updated Farm Bill takes the beginning steps to reform farm payments to better ensure Iowa's family farmers access to a safety net during difficult times, increases funding for conservation programs by $7.9 billion, and promotes Iowa's homegrown renewable energy industry.
