Senator Stevens Encourages Young Alaskans to Apply for Leadership Conference

Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) today urged Alaskans aged 16-25 to apply for the 2009 Conference of Young Alaskans (COYA). The program, which began in 2006, commemorates Alaska's Constitutional Convention, and encourages discussion of the challenges facing Alaskans today.

"I heartily encourage young Alaskans to jump at this opportunity," said Senator Stevens. "Even as we face a new series of challenges as a State and Nation, Alaska's future is bright. There are many opportunities for young people in our great State. Young Alaskans who want to be active in shaping our future could benefit from this particular opportunity."

The 2009 COYA, which will be held January 3-6, will bring 55 delegates from throughout the state together at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. Any Alaskan aged 16-25 interested in participating can nominate themselves at no cost at www.youngalaskans.org. Applications are due by midnight, October 18.
