Statement of Idaho Senator Larry Craig on Micron Technology Job Cuts in Boise

Idaho Senator Larry Craig today issued the following statement after Micron Technology, Idaho's largest private employer, announced it will be cutting 1,500 jobs in Boise over the next two years:

"Sometimes those of us who live in Idaho think we are immune from national or global economic crisis. It is obvious today with the Micron announcement that Idaho producers who sell in world markets are not immune. These were the kinds of concerns I looked at over two weeks ago when I decided it was time for Congress to act, hopefully to forestall a credit meltdown. Micron by its decision can remain in an excellent position to weather the storm.

"I am truly concerned about those who by this announcement have lost their jobs, and the difficulties they and their families will face. Congress has ensured that unemployment compensation is in place to assist those who are finding themselves in these difficult situations. And I will continue to follow all developments closely and am prepared to support bringing Congress back into session if there is further action we can take to bring relief to our economy and ultimately the working men and women of Idaho."
