Udall Calls for Action On Indian Health Service

Press Release

Date: Sept. 19, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Tom Udall, D-N.M., today wrote a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer calling for legislation reauthorizing the Indian Health Service (IHS) to be included in a Continuing Resolution that the House must pass before October 1, 2008, to keep the federal government operating. Udall has repeatedly called for House action on this issue.

"The more than one million Native Americans who rely on IHS deserve action now," said Udall. "We must do what's right for America's native peoples by reforming IHS so it can more effectively and efficiently provide the care that its client's deserve."
