REP. DRIEHAUS STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF CONGRESSWOMAN STEPHANIE TUBBS JONES

Ohio State Rep. Steve Driehaus issued the following statement regarding the passing of Stephanie Tubbs Jones, a Cleveland-area Congresswoman from Ohio's 11th District who became the first African-American woman elected to Congress from the state. She was serving in her fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives when she died from cerebral aneurysm Wednesday.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of Congresswoman Tubbs Jones' passing," Driehaus said. "The leadership she gave to her constituents in the Cleveland area and all of Cuyahoga County - first as a judge, then prosecutor, then Member of Congress - is a model representative of exactly the type of public servant we should all strive to be."

"Our collective loss leaves a critical missing piece in Congress," Driehaus continued. "Her unique style of leadership - bucking expectations and following her conscious - earned her the respect of her colleagues and those she served. Lucienne and I, along with the entire Driehaus family, extend our deepest sympathies to the Congresswoman's family, friends and co-workers. Our prayers are with them."
