Governor Jindal's Statement on US House Passage of Disaster Relief Funds

Today, Governor Bobby Jindal released the following statement on H.R. 2638, the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009, upon its passage in the US House:

"This resolution from the House today is a positive first step toward the total amount of assistance our state needs to recover from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, while we are still rebuilding from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Of course, our needs are far more comprehensive than what is included in this package, as it does not include the 100 percent federal cost share for Louisiana, which has been approved for Texas and was approved for our state in 2005, or the vital agricultural assistance needed for our farmers who sustained severe losses during the storms, or adequately address our important hurricane protection and coastal restoration needs. We also do not yet know how most of this funding will be allocated between the states. We continue to work with the Senate on this package and work with the entire Louisiana delegation to ensure our state's recovery needs remain at the forefront of the national agenda in Congress. If Washington can afford to bailout Wall Street, they can certainly help Louisiana's working families get back on their feet."
