State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) released the following statement after Congress today allowed the offshore drilling moratorium to expire at the end of the month.
"Instead of taking a leadership position on the Gang of 20 legislation, and ensuring that North Carolina's interests were protected - both in terms of geography and revenue - Elizabeth Dole has sold out to Big Oil and Gas while North Carolina pays the price. I support drilling off the coast of North Carolina, but when she had the choice between North Carolina's interests 37.5% of the revenue and rigs 50 miles offshore - and the special interests - no revenue and rigs 3 miles offshore - Elizabeth Dole, of course, chose the latter."
