Arkansas Lawmakers Secure Federal Housing Grant for the River Valley

Date: Sept. 15, 2008
Location: Washington D.C.

U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with U.S. Representative John Boozman (AR-03) today announced a $250,344 grant for the Crawford-Sebastian Community Development Council, Inc. from the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED) Program.

"Purchasing a home in today's economy can be a difficult challenge for many Arkansans. In addition to a decline in the housing market, prices for food, gas and energy remain high. This funding will help residents in Crawford and Sebastian Counties overcome these financial obstacles and live in a home of their own," said Lincoln.

"Every one of our families deserves to live in safe, well-built housing," said Pryor. "This grant will help address this need in western Arkansas."

"Providing affordable housing is a necessary tool for development and growth in Arkansas," Boozman said. "This funding is an investment that will provide opportunities for Third District families to live the American Dream."

RHED supports innovative housing and economic development activities at the State and local levels in rural areas.
