Corker Comments on Highway Trust Fund Fix

U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) says legislation passed by the Senate late Wednesday will restore critical funding for roads and bridges in Tennessee and throughout the country. The bill, H.R. 6532, puts $8 billion into the highway trust fund which has been depleted by declining gas taxes.

"While I strongly preferred paying for this fix upfront rather than adding the cost to our debt, I didn't think it was responsible to leave states with crippling shortfalls that would have resulted in a shut-down of critical infrastructure improvements throughout our country. The Tennessee Department of Transportation tells us this will restore $235.6 million in funding for our state to continue important bridge and road construction projects," said Corker.
