House Passes Everett Requested Funds for Maxwell-Gunter and Ft. Rucker

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation Friday appropriating $22.3 in military construction funds for Maxwell-Gunter and Fort Rucker in southeast Alabama, Congressman Terry Everett, R-Rehobeth, announced.

"The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act for 2009 passed the U.S. House on a 409 to 4 vote today, including funding I requested for two construction projects to enhance the missions at our Second District military bases," said Congressman Everett, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee.

"I'm pleased to report that $15.5 million was appropriated for an Air and Space Basic Course Combat Arms Training Facility at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery. The funding will be used to construct a 56-position, 50-meter small arms firing range with automated range target system, and a support facility.

"Additionally, the legislation passed today appropriates $6.8 million I requested for the construction of a Fort Rucker military chapel complex featuring a 400-seat sanctuary, a 239-seat activity center and 15 religious education classrooms. This facility will replace multiple World War II-era, undersized chapel buildings on post.

"These military construction projects were previously authorized by the 2009 Defense Authorization Act which passed the House on May 23. I look forward to their final approval this fall as the House conferences with the Senate to pass the 2009 defense budget," Congressman Everett added
